Felix V. Matos Castro

Compartimos el fallecimiento del ingeniero Félix V. Matos Castro en la mañana del viernes 22 de enero del 2021 en Orlando Florida a la edad de 85 años. Félix nació en Cataño, Puerto Rico en el 1935, hijo de Vicente Matos y Margarita Castro. Vivió su niñez entre Cataño y Nueva York, terminando su escuela superior en el Brooklyn Technical High School. Se graduó de Ingeniería Mecánica del Colegio de Arquitectura y Artes Mecánicas de Mayagüez (CAAM) en el 1958 y se casó con su compañera de vida, Marta Rodríguez, en el 1960. Félix trabajó en la Puerto Rican Telephone Company, la Puerto Rico Glass Corporation y en Molinos de Puerto Rico (ConAgra). En Molinos de Puerto Rico trabajó por sobre tres décadas terminando como Gerente de Planta y Operaciones. Luego de su retiro de Molinos de Puerto Rico, se trasladó a Orlando, Florida donde residió desde el 1998. Aparte de su vida profesional y familiar, Félix dedicó mucho tiempo al servicio a los demás particularmente como voluntario y líder en los Niños Escuchas, el Colegio de Ingenieros de Puerto Rico, los Cursillos de Cristiandad, y los Caballeros de Colón. Fue fundador del Consejo de Caballeros de Colón de la Parroquia Santa Catalina de Siena donde sirvió como Gran Caballero. También fue Presidente del Capítulo de San Juan del Colegio de Ingenieros y co-fundador del Capítulo Especial de la Florida. Félix V Matos Castro (1935-2021) We share the sad news of the passing of Félix V. Matos Castro at the age of 85 in Orlando Florida on the morning of Friday, January 22, 2021. Félix was born in Cataño, Puerto Rico, in 1935. He was the son of Vicente Matos and Margarita Castro. He spent his childhood between Cataño and New York City, finishing high school at Brooklyn Technical High School. Félix later graduated from the College of Architecture and Mechanical Arts of Mayagüez (CAAM) with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1958. He married his life partner, Marta Rodríguez, in 1960 at the Our Lady of the Candelaria Cathedral in Mayaguez. Felix worked at the Puerto Rican Telephone Company, the Puerto Rico Glass Corporation and at Molinos de Puerto Rico (ConAgra). At Molinos de Puerto Rico he worked for over three decades concluding his distinguished career as General and Operations Manager. Following his retirement from Molinos de Puerto Rico, he moved to Orlando, Florida where he resided since 1998. Apart from his family and professional commitments, Félix dedicated his time to serving others, particularly as a volunteer and leader in the Boy Scouts, the Puerto Rico College of Engineers, the Cursillos de Cristiandad, and the Knights of Columbus. He was the founder of the Council of the Knights of Columbus of the Parish Santa Catalina de Siena where he served as Grand Knight. He was also President of the San Juan Chapter of the College of Engineers and co-founder of the Florida Special Chapter. He is survived by his wife, Marta, his children, Felo, Victor and Rafael, his daughters-in-law Cecilia and Liliana, and grandchildren Alex, Danny, Lucas and Juan Carlos. The family has postponed life celebrations and masses until it is safe to gather again given the current COVID-19 public health pandemic.
