Tony Steven Wood

Tony S. Wood, 67, of Buenaventura Lakes, passed away on August 19, 2021 in Kissimmee, FL. He was born on October 26, 1953 to Betty Hunt Wood and Steve G. Wood in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at Saint Anthony’s Hospital. He grew up in Oklahoma City and surrounding areas and attended Oklahoma University until he joined the US Navy in May of 1973, met his lovely wife Daisy at N.A.S. Cecil Field in Jacksonville, FL in February 1974 and they would elope the following October 16, 1974. Tony attended Oklahoma University and Central State University aka University of Central Oklahoma where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Science in 1979 with a minor in Computer Science and went on to do his 2 year internship at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City. He worked at National Health Laboratory until the family moved to Central Florida in 1992 where he began to work as Laboratory Manager and moved up to Director at LabCorp while he worked at Florida Hospital part time as well. Then in 1998 he went full time with Florida Hospital/Advent Health until his retirement Aug 28, 2020. Tony was known for his intellect, quiet demeanor and great sense of humor and loved talking about politics and current events with family and anyone who would listen. He was passionate and very well read as an enthusiast of History, Government and was also an avid reader of many books to include the Bible. He is survived by his parents Betty and Steve; his wife of 47 years, Daisy (Acevedo); his sons Eric and James and his daughters Jessica Shuford and Brittany Burton; his grandchildren Steven Wood, Porsche Wood, Gabriel, Jazmine & Jesenya Darnell, Hannah & Troy Burton, and Rayna Shuford; sister Belinda Upton, brother Mark Wood; and a host of many nieces, nephews, along with great nieces & nephews; and an abundance of long time family & special friends. A memorial/celebration of life for family and friends will be held on September 11 at 3:00pm at Kissimmee Christian Church, 415 N Main Street, Kissimmee, FL 34743 Pastor Jim Book will officiate. Time will be allowed to share your memories. Family requests that in Lieu of Flowers, donations be made to assist in the driving Tony’s ashes and presentation from Florida to Oklahoma to have a second Memorial on Sept 25, 2021 for his Parents and family who cannot travel during these times.
